    The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Director, Office of Research Integrity [R0128514]

    ROLE of the POSITION 

    The Assistant Director assists ORI's Executive Director with the development, management, and oversight to the ethical and legal aspects of research compliance, including financial conflicts of interest, research integrity, international collaborations, animal use program (IACUC), human participants research (IRB), responsible conduct of research (RCR), and other relevant areas. Specific oversight of the UNLV's conflict of interest program is delegated from the Executive Director to the Assistant Director. This position will have direct supervisory duties and serve as a backup to the Executive Director in his or her absence.  

     

    The Assistant Director will lead and manage complex, cross-functional projects with university-wide impact.  This position will assist in the development and administration of UNLV policies and procedures related to research compliance and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws, and regulations.  

     

    Additionally, this position is responsible for the development and administration of the University's conflict of interest program to ensure compliance with federal law and requirements, including those covered by the Public Health Service 

    KNOWLEDGE 

    Required 

    • Work with the compliance team to develop, refine, and implement University policies and practices for compliance for each of the following topical areas: 

    • Coordinate research integrity proceedings, including serving as UNLV's Deputy Research Integrity Officer 

    • Conflict of Interest Committee - Evaluate COI disclosures; work with ORI's Executive Director on appropriate oversight. Work with faculty, chairs and deans on implementing effective COI disclosure program as it relates to research related activities. 

    • Institutional Review Board - Ability to understand and interpret human subject research regulations and provide assistance to the IRB Administrators as needed. 

    • The AD will also be able to do the following: 

    •  Provide clear, responsive and frequent communication to the campus community. 

    •  Design and maintain relevant information that cultivates a culture of compliance. 

    • Implement procedures to streamline office practices such as protocol tracking, reviews, and committee administration for COI 

    • Understand the complexities of research security and facilitate enhancements to the University's processes and policies around COI disclosures 

    • Frequently communicate to and coordinate with university stakeholder offices across the university to address questions, needs, and problems related to research integrity and compliance needs 

    • Promote compliance awareness across campus. 

    • As requested, review and approve material transfer agreements, confidential/non-disclosure agreements, and other agreements - as well as solicitations and sponsored research agreements - for compliance reviews. 

    • Collaborate with others in Division of Research to enhance communication around research compliance, including policy development, training and website presence. 

    • Monitor compliance and assess the adequacy of compliance activities and programs throughout the research area and in other related campus activities; periodically revise the compliance program to respond to changes in regulatory or policy environments. 

    • Prepare briefing papers, data tables, charts, and reports in response to requests for information 

    • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by ORI's Executive Director 

    • Knowledge of COI/FCOI, Research Misconduct, and Foreign Influence policies and procedures  

    • Demonstrated experience in the review and interpretation of federal regulations 

    • Experience with university and/or research administration 

    • Knowledge of university policies and procedures, especially those related to the Division of Research 

     

    SKILLS 

     

    Required 

    • Advance degree strongly preferred. 

    • More than six years of experience in research compliance or research administration. 

    • Broad understanding of the compliance requirements of federal, state, and other regulatory agencies. 

    • High level of competency with systems applications and databases. 

    • Excellent interpersonal and organizational development skills. 

    • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information. 

    • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to innovate. 

    • Excellent communications skills, public speaking skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels of the organization. Ability to be flexible, tactful, and diplomatic. 

    • High degree of personal integrity and ethics with uncompromising standards. 

    • Proven ability to form partnerships with faculty and staff to accomplish compliance objectives. 

    • Experience developing and delivering training or education workshops in an academic setting. 

    • Willingness and desire to travel to professional development opportunities 

    • Demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships regarding compliance with all levels of university personnel 

    • Ability to work sensitively with foreign nationals (faculty, staff, and students) 

     

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    This position requires a Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 5+ years of related experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.  Experience in conduct of science or scholarship, global interactions, and directing or overseeing a program or facet under the auspices of a research compliance office is preferred. 

     

    SALARY RANGE 

    Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
