Brittany, perhaps you have heard of Dropbox? Storage on Google drive, utilizing its authorization and security features, works as well.
For AAALAC site visits, it is more and more common to collect and store the requested documents (protocols, SOPs, etc.) in an electronic archive such as these, too.

Box.com is where our university stores and share files.

We got rid of multiple file cabinets once we realized there was no need to print protocols. Since they are only as current as the last amendment, it makes sense (and saves some trees) to only generate them on demand. PIs print them to paper or to pdfs stored on Box for their labs. For inspectors and site visits, I print those they request to pdfs and share them via a folder on Box.

Thanks so much for your post, Brittnay! When I worked as an IACUC coordinator at OHSU here in Portland, OR, each lab had a printed version of their protocol available to lab staff. The IACUC office did not keep hard copies of the protocols. When we had inspections or audits, the inspectors would occasionally request hard copies of certain protocols for review, so the IACUC office would make them a binder upon request.
I'm interested to hear how other institutions manage their files.
Thank you for being an active community member!
Best,
Sarah

Hi everyone
I know how it works to print out protocols using the pdf viewer from Cayuse, but is this actually a necessary requirement to have hard copies or is cloud based access ok?
