Has anyone tried copying an expired protocol to start a new submission? I know the researchers can copy an approved protocol, but one of our PIs wants to use an old protocol so that they do not have to start from scratch.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello and thank you for this great question. Yes, you can copy an expired protocol to a new protocol. To do this, you will go to the Action Menu [...] and do a Protocol Search. Using the filters, find the protocol you are wanting to copy and click Copy Protocol to New Document. Your researcher will be ready to review the protocol and submit their new protocol for review.

Yes, we have done it; we have a PI working on one now.

First, we hid the copy protocol function from all roles except the IACUC Office since our PIs can get button clicking happy.

The office can copy any protocol (with any status) to the same or a different PI. It just creates a new unfinished protocol for the PI it is assigned to. They are advised to review each item carefully before submitting.

If you're working in the Animal Oversight module, in the IACUC (office) role, do a search for the protocol they want to copy.  Choose the relevant version, and then click "Copy Protocol to PI", and choose the new PI.  It should then appear in their Draft Protocols folder.
