    Summary

    The Department of Neurology within Michigan Medicine is looking for a research administrator to join our team. This position will perform a range of post-award financial management responsibilities for select research faculty. Neurology has a research portfolio with a variety of sponsors and varying levels of complexity.
    Flexible Work Arrangements: you will be eligible for mostly remote working, only coming into the office in a as needed basis.

    Responsibilities*

    • Independently reconcile sponsored research projects using M-Reports, M Pathways, Human Resources Management System (HRMS), eReconciliation, Business Objects and other reporting tools to ensure appropriate use of funds.
    • Interpret and ensure ethical adherence to University, federal and other sponsor policies.
    • Prepare monthly reports with revenues, encumbrances, and projected balances.
    • Provide faculty portfolio analysis and advise faculty on best practices for post-award management.
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with Neurology faculty during monthly finance meetings
    • Setup new awards including sub-PG requests, subcontracts, consulting agreements, hardship requests and cost share.
    • Compile financial information to process transactions such as budget allocations, appointment change requests (PAR), and journal entries
    • Understand revenue payment types, project grant revenue allocation, and managing revenue at grant close-out
    • Assist faculty with progress reports, Award Change Requests (ACRs) including re-budgeting and extensions
    • Perform required project closeout actions including review and resolution of UG and FSR reports. Monitor personnel project effort following university and sponsor policies.
    • Interact with multiple Neurology staff including colleagues in research administration, administrative assistants, study coordinators, and central offices such as Sponsored Programs, Office of Research and Sponsored Projects, the Medical School's Grants and Contract Review office, the Clinical Trial Support Office, etc.
    • Attend PAAC meetings, RAN meetings, and other types of research administration meetings for professional development purposes and to convey information to Neurology research administration colleagues

    Required Qualifications*

    • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including high level of accuracy, attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritizing while exercising good judgment.
    • Work independently or collaboratively as a part of a team.
    • Successful candidates must be motivated with a positive attitude and strong commitment to exceptional customer service, as they will work closely cultivating trust and report with a variety of constituents including departmental faculty and staff, Medical School and University administration, and sponsors.
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to maintain confidential information.
    • Requires strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe. 

    Senior level:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in finance, accounting, research administration, or business administration is required.
    • A minimum of  5 to 7 years of grant and contract experience in finance and/or research administration.

    Intermediate level:

    • Bachelor degree
    • 3 - 5 years of grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

    Desired Qualifications*

    • Experience with business tools such as M-Pathways, Business Objects, MReports, eRPM and Concur.
    • Prior experience with federal funding agencies such as NIH suggested.

    Background Screening

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
