The Office of Sponsored Programs, a division of the UNTHSC Research Office, provides pre-award, post-award, and contracting services for the support of faculty and other investigators while promoting compliance with federal and state agencies, private sponsor agreements, and UNTHSC research policies.
At the direction of the Associate Director, Post-Award, this position provides direct professional support and guidance in the administration of highly complex grants, contracts and related funds to faculty and staff in an assigned portfolio of departments. This position provides a high level of support for award management and customer service to Principal Investigators and campus staff ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and University policies.
- This position will support the departments that have high volume and highly complex awards and will assist Principal Investigators and department staff in the day-to-day management of sponsored projects, including but not limited to regular account review and reconciliation, expenditure planning, time and effort management, interpretation of sponsor terms and conditions, and University policies and procedures.
- Ensure that award oversight meets sponsor terms and conditions, and University, Federal and State statutes, policies and regulations governing sponsored research. The awards being supported by this position tend to be more complex in nature with additional terms and conditions than standard grant awards.
- Provide guidance to Principal Investigators and campus staff on cost allowability, administrative reasonableness, appropriate award allocability and funding availability.
- Lead monthly award review meetings to review award effort allocations, expenses, and available balances with Principal Investigators and campus staff (as applicable).
- Identify, research, and resolve discrepancies within the institution regarding awards, budgets, expenses, etc. in coordination with various central offices. Resolving discrepancies may include processing payroll and non-payroll cost transfers, various complex award modifications in eResearch suite, etc.
- Work closely with faculty to complete required sponsor award reporting.
- Lead project close-out processes (e.g., clear encumbrances, close purchase orders, communicate with subawards for final invoices, etc.)
- Assist with process improvement, alongside Associate Director, Post-Award and other senior level staff to improve research administration processes across campus.
- Assist in providing training and mentoring to lower-level project support staff. Participate and lead training for faculty and campus staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and five (5) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
