    The Division of Research Administration Services (RAS) within the Emory National Primate Research Center at Emory University is currently seeking a full time Research Admin, Pre-Award Manager to join our team. Our work consists of managing a team of 4 pre-award administrators with submission of federal and non-federal proposals, progress reports and just in time requests.

    Reporting to the Research Administration Services (RAS) Director, the Research Administrator, Pre-Award Manager leads and supervises all staff performing pre-award activities for the sponsored projects research portfolio for their assigned department, division, or school.

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION: 

    • Monitors workload distribution and redistributes tasks, as appropriate.
    • Provides guidance to team members, as appropriate.
    • Mentors staff for professional development.
    • May perform post-award activities in support of the RAS unit.
    • Understands and applies federal and university rules to management of effort allocation for individuals compensated whole or in part from federal awards.
    • Applies costing rules and regulations to federally funded projects.
    • Analyzes information and formulates conclusions.
    • Ensures strong levels of customer service to faculty and departments being served.
    • Addresses issues that violate performance levels or terms of the RAS performance level agreements, both with internal RAS staff and with departments and/or faculty.
    • Performs pre-award activities to include developing a budget, compiling proposal contents, entering proposal into EPEX, assisting PIs in submission of JIT forms, preparing CAS exceptions for approval, interacting with OSP and assisting in the preparation of sub-award documents and relationships with other partners on a project.
    • Prepares high-quality written reports.
    • Works with Post-Award Manager to coordinate inter-team meetings to facilitate collaboration between the pre-award and post-award teams.
    • Performs related responsibilities as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Bachelor's degree and five years work-related grants and contracts experience OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

    PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Experience at a large research institution where the volume and complexity of the proposal and award portfolio is similar to Emory.
    • Experience with NIH, NSF, and other agencies' pre-award proposal submission and post-award management duties.
    • A strong aptitude for and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with faculty, staff, partners, and other stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated strong critical thinking and analytical skills; specifically, the ability to analyze/interpret data and make recommendations.
    • Direct experience supervising individuals and/or teams and promoting their professional success.
    • Training in and knowledge of topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion or a track record of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
    • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
    • Supervisory experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of federal rules and regulations relating to research grant and/or contract activity, with specific deep understanding of the award proposal processes for multiple sponsoring bodies.
    • Proficiency with MS Office Suite software.
    • Possess experience with Emory University's research administration supply chain.
    • Have knowledge of and experience with all facets of the grant lifecycle.
    • Possess of and experience with non-human primate research and the associated federal regulations OR a sincere willingness to learn.
    • Be committed to faculty/PI (customer) service.
    • Be committed to developing and sustaining a high-performance work team.
    • Be committed to actively collaborating and engaging with local leadership (EPC Director, EPC CBO, etc.).
    • Support the RAS navigation culture.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

    • Work environment is primarily remote.
    • Work is normally performed in a typical office environment.
