Hi, Laura--
Your first place to look should be the NSF directorate that funded the equipment purchase for the MRI award. NSF farms them out to the research directorates for review and approval, and starting there also has the benefit of your PI being a known quantity to them.
After that, it becomes a question of just what kind(s) of research your PI wants to do.

Subject: NSF MRI Follow-on Funding Advice
Hello! I am the pre-award contract/Grant Specialist at Kettering University, and I am just finishing up my first year in research administration. I find myself reaching out to the Cayuse Connect discussion boards when I am at a loss, and so, here I am; hopefully, this is the correct place to pose my question.
Question: I am currently working with a faculty member who is seeking follow-on funding for an NSF MRI proposal. In other words, he has been awarded the equipment through the MRI and is now seeking additional funding to support additional research with the equipment. It is my job to help him seek appropriate funding. However, I am at a little bit of a loss as to where to start looking. Does anyone have any suggestions for search terms/types of grants/sponsors/programs that might help point us in the right direction?
Thank you in advance for your time and input on this matter!
