    General Summary

    The Assistant Director of Research Ethics and Compliance provides support to researchers at Illinois State University with federal, state, and institutional requirements for conducting research on campus. The Assistant Director will oversee the review of submitted and approved protocols to protect the safety, rights, and welfare of research subjects and ensure institutional compliance with all applicable regulations and University policies.

    This position directly supervises the Human Subjects Research Specialist and the Compliance Coordinator by offering guidance about institutional rules about study design and project implementation. On a regular basis this role will review and test protocols in research settings to be certain the approved protocol is being carried out as intended by the IRB and the IACUC. This monitoring will require written reports be generated and shared with institutional leadership on a regular basis.

    This position will provide support to the Director related to financial conflicts of interest, including screening of disclosures.

    This position will assist in policy and procedure development related to all aspects of Research Ethics and Compliance.

    Required Qualifications

    1. One of the following:
      a. Master's or equivalent degree
      b. Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience in higher education administration (in addition to the three years listed in qualification two)
    2. Three (3) years of experience which included both of the following:
      a. experience in a university research compliance environment
      b. supervisory experience or a combination of supervisory and demonstrated project management experience
    3. Demonstrated usage of electronic research administration tools (e.g., Cayuse).
    4. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
    5. Demonstrated ability to manage staff that work remotely.
    6. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

    Desired Qualifications

    1. Master's degree
    2. Demonstrated knowledge of human subjects research, vertebrate animal research, and financial conflicts of interest pertaining to research.
    3. CIP and/or CPIA.
    4. Ability to perform outreach activities with various campus constituents.

    Work Hours

    Core Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday

    Functional Expectations

    Must be able to complete the following with or without reasonable accommodation:

    1. Effectively communicate on a daily basis.
    2. Move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work.

    Proposed Starting Date

    April 2023

    Salary Rate / Pay Rate

    $70,000 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience
