    General Summary

    The Assistant Director of Award Management provides leadership and mentorship to the staff of the award management division of Research and Sponsored Programs. The Assistant Director is a member of the management team for the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at Illinois State University, which includes the Senior Director of Research, Assistant Director for Pre-Award Management, and the Contracts Manager. This team will be integral in the development and implementation of policy and procedures for all divisions within Research and Sponsored Programs. The Assistant Director will be responsible for ensuring conformance with federal regulations and sponsor guidelines, as well as compliance with institutional and sponsor policies and assessing and mitigating institutional and individual risk through administrative infrastructure development. This position communicates changes in sponsor policies and procedures to the campus community managing grants and other sponsored programs on campus.

    The Assistant Director of Award Management will work independently to develop and deliver advice, information, and presentations to PI's, Budget Officers, and departmental grant administration conducting sponsored programs at ISU. The Assistant Director will contribute to the development and reporting of Research and Sponsored Programs metrics to inform the University leadership of annual research expenditures, annual research revenues, and total dollars for awards received by the University. This position will be expected to develop strong working relationships within the campus administration and with faculty to facilitate and encourage a positive culture of support for research.

    Additional Information

    This position is eligible for hybrid work (mix of pre-scheduled/ad hoc remote and in-person days) after a 12-month training/probationary period. Eligibility is based upon employee performance, appropriate remote working environment, business needs, and supervisor approval.

    Required Qualifications

    1. Bachelor's or equivalent degree in a field related to the position
    2. Three years of experience in administering grants and/or sponsored programs at a central office.
    3. One year of supervisory experience in managing a staff of three or more.
      Note: Experience for Required Qualifications 2 and 3 may have been gained concurrently.
    4. Demonstrated knowledge of grant management, including all aspects of post-award management.
    5. Excellent organizational, problem solving, and team building skills
    6. Exceptional attention to detail
    7. Demonstrated experience gathering and interpreting data/statistics to inform management decisions
    8. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate successfully with internal and external audiences
    9. Strong client service track record

    Desired Qualifications

    1. Master's degree in a field related to the position
    2. Work experience in a combined pre-award/post award office
