    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The primary purpose of the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) is to support the research and scholarly activities of the University faculty and students.  The ORI accomplishes this goal via funding identification, proposal and budget development, post-award services, and grant writing instruction for faculty.  The Director of Student Research Engagement and Grant Office is within the Office of Research and Innovation and will report to the Vice Provost for Research.

    The Director of Student Research Engagement and Grants Officer will lead efforts to support student research as well as support faculty with the submission of both federal and state research grant applications.

    As a condition of employment, Duquesne University requires all new employees -full-time and part-time, including adjunct faculty-to get a COVID-19 vaccine and provide proof of their vaccination upon commencement of employment.

    New employees requesting a religious or documented medical exemption from the vaccine must complete and submit a Duquesne University exemption request form for review and approval. To receive the appropriate exemption request form, contact hrservices@duq.edu. Employees with approved exemptions will be required to be tested on a regular basis.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Coordinates and oversees the Undergraduate Research & Scholarship Symposium and Graduate Research Symposium.

    Supervises student workers to execute various event coordination and marketing.

    Collaborates and maintains relationship with Colleges, Schools and Departments to promote student research.

    Advertises student research activities via the Lyris account.

    Ensures ORI presence at various Duquesne University Open Houses and FAST events throughout the year.

    Coordinates the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) Duquesne University attendance including promotion of the opportunity, helping students with travel, and functioning as the university contact.

    Responsible for grant management.  Submits grant applications to various federal and state agencies.

    Facilitates communications with Principal Investigators (PIs) for securing internal review and approval prior to submission.

    Engages in outreach to federal and state agencies as indicated.

    Assists with subcontracts.

    Engages with post-award accounting as needed.

    Assists in data entry and maintenance of records for the ORI grant tracking database.

    Works with the Grant Officers to ensure timely submission of grants and reports.

    Works with Grant Officers to apply for certification and maintain recertification of University Registrations required to apply for and to receive federal grants.

    Assists with other grant related tasks as needed.

    Supervises the Graduate Research Assistant and Federal Work-Study student(s).

    Provides assistance and/or back up for the Director of Business and Grants Administration and other Grant Officers.

    Manages budget for student research and symposium activities (above $5000).

    Completes other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Minimum qualifications:


    Bachelor's degree in Business or Communications from an accredited institution.

    1-3 years of related work experience.



    Preferred qualifications:

    Master's in Business Administration, Management or Education from an accredited institution.

    Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

    Oversight of student employees.

    Coordination of student research and related activities and preparation.

    Review and submission of grant applications and monitoring to ensure compliance with funding regulations.

    Knowledge of Microsoft office, Excel and previous experience supervising the work of others.
