We're getting started on implementing Animal Oversight, and were surprised to hear that most of the fields on the out-of-the-box protocol template are not available in reporting, and that if we want to know which fields are available in reporting we have to open each canned report and map the fields to the protocol template.

Before I get started on this task, I thought it would be worth asking: are any of you who have already done this investigation willing to share the fruits of your labor?

    Thanks,
    Jennie

    Hi Jennie,

I have not attempted the mapping you describe.  Before you begin the laborious process, I wanted to advise that the data fields presented in the "Run Report" vs. "Export" options seem to not always be an identical match (ie, the included columns may vary)--further complicating your efforts (I haven't kept track of which reports this happens in or which field inclusions vary between them).

If your institution negotiated for access to all of the cloud data stored for your system, you may be able to work with your IT team to develop homegrown reports that can target specific fields of interest.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,
    Cheryl

I strongly agree with Cheryl on this, if you we able to obtain access to your cloud data for third-party data reporting - then I would pursue that route. We currently use Power BI to generate multiple reports - the speed of development from concept to final report, is incredibly fast. Power BI also allows the reports to be interactive to the viewer, they can filter data to smaller subsets, "drill down" to see specifics of certain data. Lastly, the Power BI reports are capable of being published to a website or through Microsoft Teams.
