Post Award - Financial Management (multiple leadership positions) at Virginia Tech

The Office of Sponsored Programs at Virginia Tech is seeking to fill multiple leadership positions in its Financial Management Team either at the senior associate or team lead levels.  These leadership positions are expected to foster teamwork and collaboration, with demonstrated organizational skills and a high commitment to customer service.

 

The Senior Post Award Associate oversees a more complex portfolio of billing, financial reporting, receivable/collection and fiscal closeout of research awards in accordance with sponsored award requirements.  The senior associate is responsible for reviewing financial terms and invoicing requirements of award documents in order to prepare accurate invoices and financial reports in accordance with University and sponsor requirements, to ensure compliance with award terms. Additional responsibilities include coordination with the grants management team for fiscal reconciliation at award closeout and final invoice submission; account receivable management to ensure accurate application and receipt of payments; generation of invoices and reporting; as well as providing support to the team lead and helps to mentor and train associate level positions.

The Team Lead serves as the first line manager for billing, financial reporting, receivable/collection and fiscal closeout of sponsored research awards and reports directly to the associate director. The team lead provides professional administrative management of personnel and complex billing and reporting activities on sponsored grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements. Primary responsibilities include ensuring recurring financial compliance on sponsored awards that include time sensitive, nonstandard reporting and billing requirements; creating bills outside of financial system to meet sponsor demands; overseeing complex cost sharing requirements and program income reporting; and collaborating with the broader team for subrecipient monitoring including closeout of subrecipient and contract release. This position supports leadership and serves as a mentor to junior staff positions.

 

Required Qualifications:

Required at the Senior level:

• Master’s degree or lesser degree with significant relevant work experience in lieu of the advanced degree.
• Strong background in accounting practices
• Demonstrated research administration experience
• Demonstrated experience and/or college coursework with emphasis on accounting, finance or government/business regulations and administration

 

Required at the Team Lead Level:
• Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree with significant relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
• Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of some federal and nonfederal regulations and guidelines, cost principles, uniform administrative requirements for grants and audits of states, local governments, and nonprofit organizations. 
• Demonstrated leadership and independent initiative.
• Demonstrated accounting and budgeting experience.
• Relevant research administration certification such as CRA (Certified Research Administrator) or CFRA (Certified Financial Research Administrator) or completed within 2 years
