    The Strategic Interdisciplinary Research Office (SIRO) at Penn State University is searching for a Multidisciplinary Proposal Developer - International Programs (Proposal and Award Generalist 3).

    SIRO is a research development and administration unit that is part of the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research (OSVPR) at The Pennsylvania State University at University Park, PA. The OSVPR is responsible for facilitating a more than $1-billion-per-year research enterprise at Penn State by working with a broad range of units across the institution. SIRO provides active support for the development, submission, and management of large-team multidisciplinary proposals for external funding.

    SIRO supports proposal development, pre-award administration, and project management of Federally funded training grants for multi-college and multi-institutional efforts, while the Finance Office (FO) within OSVPR provides post-award support for complex large team funded awards. This position will provide proposal development support services to a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. It will report to the Associate Director, Proposal Development.

    This position will guide and facilitate faculty teams as they develop university-wide or multi-university interdisciplinary research proposals in response to federal opportunities with emphasis on international partnerships. This position will assist with cultivating internal and international relationships and provide proposal development services to both faculty and administrators involved in the development of complex multidisciplinary research projects and proposals and the management of international joint innovation partnerships (JIPs). The candidate will be involved with submission of whitepapers and proposals and coordinating faculty needs for launching domestic and international proposal development efforts.

    As a member of a cross-functional team that includes faculty researchers and research administrators and project managers, this position will take the lead in supporting research proposals involving joint research efforts from Penn State faculties and their domestic and overseas research partners. There are three primary functions for this position:

    • Understanding funding agency missions, programs, policies, and grant solicitations/RFPs and working with faculty teams to develop proposal content (contributor of ideas and content in the proposals);
    • Assisting principal investigators to develop equitable and sustainable research teams and partnerships necessary to address the writing of non-technical sections (e.g., diversity and inclusion, education and outreach, management, data management, facilities, etc.) of proposals by connecting with strategic partners across Penn State and externally;
    • Coordination among Penn State and overseas research centers/laboratories to organize international teams of principal investigators in accordance with grant submission requirements.

    The Multidisciplinary Proposal Developer-International Proposals will be highly engaged in team communications that occur throughout proposal development to ensure timely and effective submissions. Good management, communication skills, and technical writing skills are essential. This position provides a range of services as needed on specific proposals. These services include:

    • Coordinating and providing innovative ideas/writing, gathering data, identifying resources, and editing of non-technical sections;
    • Providing support for technical sections as requested;
    • Developing strategies in coordination with SIRO's multimedia specialists to enhance messaging/presentation of data and facts through the addition of graphics, figures, and other visuals;
    • Coordinating and planning meetings with the research team and developing roadmaps, identifying deliverables, and coordinating timelines to meet proposal submission deadlines;
    • Coordinating communications between primary and co-primary investigators within and external to Penn State;
    • Coordinating as well as self-participation in peer (red team) reviews of proposals prior to finalization and submission.

    This position requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with a good possibility of renewal. This position may be eligible for hybrid or fully remote status.
