Kent State University is seeking a director of our new Research Development office. Our new R1 designation has resulted in enhanced excitement for the research endeavor and an increased investment in our research support infrastructure. The Director of Research Development oversees the Research Development office and works directly with faculty in their pursuit of extramural research funding, specifically for large interdisciplinary proposals, center proposals, and research and training proposals of high institutional importance. The Director works within the Kent State University system and with its leadership to create a short- and longer-term plan for strategic research advancement and plans what activities are required to maintain and support a growing R1 university. The Director will help to develop and build the research development office and will lead the recruitment and development of multiple staff who will report to the Director.
The director reports to the Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs. The position develops and maintains relationships with extramural funding agencies, corporations, and other stakeholders in support of faculty research development efforts. The Director will typically work with PIs and large faculty teams on highly complex proposals and proposals of strategic institutional importance which require narrative developmental editing, communicating with stakeholders, assessing programmatic research trends, and meeting with multiple investigators and multiple sub-awards. This position includes the possibility of hybrid work.
