Grants Manager – Research Development

Des Moines University (DMU) seeks a Grants Manager – Research Development to support and expand the university's externally funded research portfolio. This faculty‑facing position manages the full lifecycle of grants and sponsored programs, from funding opportunity identification and proposal development through award management and post‑award compliance. The Grants Manager works closely with faculty, sponsors, and internal partners to advance high‑quality, competitive, and compliant research submissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and disseminate federal, state, foundation, and industry funding opportunities.
- Partner with faculty to develop, write, edit, and submit competitive grant proposals.
- Coordinate proposal components, including budgets, budget justifications, biosketches, and sponsor‑required documentation.
- Ensure proposals are accurate, compliant, and submitted on time through systems such as Cayuse and federal sponsor portals.
- Manage post‑award activities, including subawards, reporting, sponsor communication, and expenditure monitoring.
- Assist with review and coordination of research agreements, subcontracts, MTAs, and confidentiality agreements.
- Provide guidance on grants administration, Uniform Guidance, and sponsor requirements.
- Support internal research funding programs and institutional research development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (advanced degree preferred).
- 3–5 years of experience in grants administration, research development, or sponsored programs.
- Demonstrated experience supporting proposal development, submission, and award management.
- Working knowledge of federal grant regulations and Uniform Guidance.
- Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting complex or high‑value proposals.
- Experience with subaward administration and monitoring.
- Familiarity with electronic research administration systems (e.g., Cayuse).
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or willingness to obtain.
