Maintains the administrative operation of IACUC and IBC for efficient committee operation. Processes committee
protocol applications and other submissions. Performs initial review and analysis of protocols; provides feedback to
investigators; provides technical expertise to Faculty, Researchers and IACUC members, IBC members and other
committees as needed; and reviews and assesses research proposals involving the use of animals, biohazards and
biological material operations. Communicates with investigators, Senior Biosafety Officer, Associate Director IACUC
and committee chairs on submissions and requirements. Oversees scheduling committee meetings, securing meeting
rooms, obtaining equipment, refreshments, and other support required. Working with the Senior Biosafety Officer ,
Associate Director IACUC and Committee Chairs, prepares meeting agendas, minutes, notices and other documents for
committee review. Notifies investigators of pertinent items. Tracks Committee approvals, expirations and all regulatory
and procedural requirements for compliance.
Assists with ensuring compliance for IACUC and IBC with regulatory requirements, policies and accreditation
standards. Responsible for maintenance of IACUC and IBC policies and procedures to meet accreditation standards,
and meet and exceed regulatory requirements. Develops, refines, implements, updates (following appropriate
approvals),and maintains policies and procedures that comply with all federal, state and local regulations and
accreditation standards. Updates policies, procedures and guidelines in response to changes in regulations (following
appropriate approvals). Maintains working knowledge of all federal, state and local regulations and University Policies
and Procedures as they relate to the management of the IACUC and IBC. Advises researchers on policies, procedures
and regulations.
Works with the Senior Biosafety Officer and Associate Director IACUC to establish metrics and prepare technical
reports on IACUC and IBC related to committee activities and program outcome measurement. This includes the
organization, entry and analysis of information and data obtained from research proposals; laboratory and
research facilities assessments; and benchmarking performance standards to improve customer satisfaction using
periodic faculty and staff surveys.
Assists the Associate Director IACUC with scheduling Post Approval Monitoring (PAM)of IACUC approved Animal
Research Protocols and analysis of information and data obtained in accordance with USDA and OLAW
regulations. Assists Senior Biosafety Officer and Associate Director IACUC with research inquiries, investigations of
noncompliance, audits and corrective action measures. Assist the Senior Biosafety Officer and Associate Director
IACUC in coordinating regulatory inspections by USDA, OLAW, CDC, DOT and other agencies. Evaluates and reports on
laboratory and research facilities emergencies involving animals and biohazards.
Oversees operation of the electronic protocol submission system for the IACUC and IBC. Trains committee members
and investigators on use of the system. Troubleshoots issues with the electronic system through URSA IS&T support
personnel.
Develops and coordinates a comprehensive curriculum for training in regulatory, safety and other IACUC and IBC
related areas including the electronic protocol management system. Provides instruction, secures appropriate
instructors or alternative education modalities. Oversees recordkeeping of committee members, researchers and
staff training.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
Requires a minimum two (2) years experience in the management of research activities involving laboratory animals, biological
materials or research laboratories. Requires experience in animal committee and biosafety committee administration. CBSP,
CSP, CIH, CPIA or ACLAM preferred.
