The office of Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) at Northern Illinois University (NIU) is looking for an accomplished Director for Post Award to lead the day to day functions of our Award Acceptance and Award Management teams. The Director will join a dynamic team of research administration professionals committed to providing excellent support to NIU faculty and staff while safeguarding the University through the sound stewardship of sponsored funds.
NIU is located ~65 miles west of downtown Chicago in DeKalb, Illinois and is included in the Research Universities – High Research Activity category of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and is a member of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. NIU's vision is to be an engine for innovation to advance social mobility; promote personal, professional and intellectual growth; and transform the world through research, artistry, teaching and outreach.
A combined pre and post award central office, SPA supports this vision by managing over $100 million a year in funding requests. In FY 20, SPA oversaw the acceptance of $43 million in new sponsored awards. NIU's FY 20 research expenditures were $25 million.
A senior leader within SPA, the Director is responsible for all activities necessary for the compliant administration and advancement of sponsored programs. The position oversees critical functions in the performance of award acceptance and management. This includes financial and non-financial post award.
