    Description: 

    The director oversees all research compliance activities and ensures the university community is informed about policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The position is housed within the Office of Research Integrity Assurance, which coordinates university research compliance activities involving export control, research conflicts, research misconduct and responsible conduct of research.

    The position serves as the university's research conflicts of interest officer and implements procedures governing disclosure, review, and management of conflicts in accordance with university policies and regulations.

    The position serves as the university's research integrity officer and implements procedures governing allegations of research misconduct.

    The director oversees the research compliance review activities of the university-wide research conflicts of interest committee.

    The position serves as the university's empowered official for export controls.   

    The position oversees training related to above areas and ensures that members of the university research community are informed about policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements relevant to the conduct of research and export control.

    Essential Functions:

    • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure research compliance that fosters an environment promoting responsible conduct in all aspects of research performance. Coordinates all related university research compliance activities in above areas to ensure regulatory compliance. Ensures appropriate education and training resources are provided. Coordinates the development and enforcement of related policies, monitoring, and auditing for the university. Develops and recommends appropriate budget to support administration in areas of position's oversight. Ensures programs have the resources necessary to operate effectively including personnel, supplies and electronic systems.

     

    • Responsible for assuring compliance with university, state, and federal conflict of interest policies, instituting, and engaging as needed with the COI committee.  Ensures an efficient flow of disclosures through the COI review process and has extensive involvement in the management and monitoring of defined conflicts of interest along with the COI chair and committee, and participation in the monitoring structure of faculty/staff.  Advises individual faculty and staff, as well as academic and administrative units, on policy interpretation and federal regulations, including presenting COI educational sessions as needed and leading group sessions. Collaborates with multiple administrative offices including technology transfer, regulatory affairs and sponsored programs to create effective partnerships that promote COI disclosures and management.

     

    • Serves as the university research integrity officer. Promotes research objectivity and compliance with regulations by developing University policies and procedures for responsible conduct of research. Implements procedures governing research misconduct allegations. Receives and evaluates allegations of research misconduct and determines if allegations merit an inquiry. Oversees research misconduct inquiries and investigations. Develops research misconduct reports and communicates with federal agencies. Maintains all research misconduct records according to security and retention requirements.  Implements and maintains a University responsible conduct of research training program and other activities that promote integrity in research.
       
    • Responsible for implementing export control policies and procedures throughout the university and providing training and guidance to assure adherence to federal export control regulations and sponsoring agency policies and procedures related to export controls.  The director of research integrity assurance will be responsible for training and advising members of the university community regarding travel to embargoed and sanctioned countries.
       
    • Performs annual employee evaluations and merit assessments. Supervises direct reports. Participates in professional conferences, and represents the University in national, regional and local organizations. Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications
    : Master's degree or equivalent and seven years of experience; or a combination of education and related experience. JD or PhD preferred.
