    Job Summary
    Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Research Reporting the Financial Analyst will play a critical role in ensuring financial compliance of any specific University, Federal, State and Sponsor rules and regulations. Federal and State agencies, as well as other public and private sponsors, established clear financial reporting requirements for expenditure of funds and it is the goal of Research Financial Reporting & Compliance to provide timely, accurate and consistent reporting with all requirements of research funds expenditures.
    Minimum Education and Experience

    Bachelor's degree; Three (3) or more years experience in a relevant field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or other business area with experience in financial analysis and reporting
    • Three to five years progressively responsible related financial/accounting/budget experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Knowledge of Federal Regulations, Microsoft Office, advanced knowledge of financial reporting tools (i.e., Access, Advanced Excel, Crystal reporting, etc.)
    • Experience working in a university setting
    • Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication, self-motivated and willing to take initiatives
    • Comfortable with advanced features in excel for manipulating data with functions, macros, creating and manipulating charts
    • Experience in and aptitude for accounting and financial analysis
    • Working knowledge of invoicing, billing, Procurement processes
    • Advanced experience in PeopleSoft
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
      • Ensure sponsored programs funds are spent in compliance with the applicable laws, regulations and provisions
      • Assist in preparation and distribution of research related financial statements/reports for both internal and external use and ensures that all documentation complies with UTD, federal and state regulations and professional standards guidelines
      • Monitoring Sub Awards including collaborating with Office of Sponsored Projects and Procurement Management from creation to close out including:

     § Budgeting
     § Usage of correct account codes
     § Purchase order timeliness
     § Ensure correct encumbrance amounts
     § Payments being made to the correct Purchase Order
    • Sponsored Projects award management
     § New Award set-up
     § New Cost Center processing
     § Process Budget Revisions
     § Process Award Amendments
     § Journal Approvals
     § Review travel and professional services attachments/forms
    • Mentor Junior Financial Analysts/Contract and Grant Specialists
    • Perform budget and cost analysis, reviewing and advising of financial status
    • Assist in performing multi-year financial projections
    • Communicating with direct management, finance personnel and other analysts in meeting tasks assigned
    • Preparing detailed analyses of various general ledger accounts and selected cost centers, as assigned; Reviewing account and/or fund activity for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness; provide management with preliminary interpretations and explanations on trends, current and prior year changes and projected impact
