    Hello Cayuse Community!

I am working on a step-by-step SOP for our IACUC researchers to provide some context about each section of our Animal Oversight protocol (e.g., the type of information needed for a particular question). Attached is a draft of what I have thus far. Has anyone developed this type of resource for their animal researchers? Has Cayuse developed such a resource that I am not aware of? Any help the community can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance and happy Friday!

    Sharla

    Hi Sharla,

Thanks for being an active member of our community! This is such a great topic. When I worked as an IACUC administrator at OHSU, our office developed a similar resource for our research community.

Cayuse does have a researcher manual for Animal Oversight and Hazard Safety, which I attached in this response. The manual walks researchers through navigation of the Cayuse applications, provides tips on how to complete and manage protocols, and includes an overview of searches and reports. I'd love any feedback on the manual, as our team is always looking for ways to improve resources for our user community.

Institution-specific SOPs, like the one you developed, can provide more insight on expectations from the committees, which can help researchers adequately address the questions in the forms.

Thanks again for the great post!

    All the best,

    Sarah

    Hi Sharla,

Thanks for the great feedback on the manual! I tracked down a few other guides that I thought might be helpful. Please find them attached. One is a comprehensive training reference for administrators. The other is a manual for committee members and reviewers.

    Have a great weekend,

    Sarah

@Sarah Josway thank you again for being so helpful today. I did have one request. Can you provide a screenshot similar to the attached image but allowing the pull-down menu to show Animal Oversight in the list of Products? My system has not yet modernized to Platform yet, but I was needing this screenshot for my SOP. Thank you again.

@Sarah Josway please tell me what each of these abbreviations in AO stand for:

ICV IM INJ IP IV ORL TOP  [this for the Routes of Administration question related to the Drugs section]. Thank you.

@Sharla Miles great question! The options for routes of administration are managed by customers in the Animal Oversight protocol dictionary lists, so you can use the full term if preferred. The ones listed are defined below.

    • ICV: Intracerebroventricular
    • IM: Intramuscular
    • INJ: Injection
    • IP: Intraperitoneal
    • IV: Intravenous
    • ORL: Oral
    • TOP: Topical

    Thank you,

    Sarah

@Sarah Josway ~ I have two additional requests for my SOP initiative:

    1. Is it possibe to provide a list of the possible items that woule require a dictionary list request by my PIs? Can you tell what items are dictionary-backed in SHSU's progocol by reviewing the attached draft [Note: I have all sections fully opened in this draft]?
    2. Please provide a brief description of PI Group, so I can use it as a definition in my SOP.

Thank you again for all of your help with this SOP.

    Hi Sharla,

    Happy to help!

    • Here is a list of potential dictionary requests your PIs might run into with your form. Many institutions add an 'other' option to these lists that PIs can use if they don't find the option they're looking for.
      • Options page: Species
      • Use Locations page: Buildings, Rooms
      • Non-Surgical Procedures page: Procedure titles
      • Restraint page: Restraint types
      • Surgical Procedures page: Surgery titles
      • Drug page: Drug names
      • BioHazard page: This is hard for me to tell without logging into your environment. This is either a list of agent names or agents listed on the PI's IBC protocols.
      • Euthanasia page: Euthanasia methods
    • PI groups empower PIs to delegate members of their labs to assist with IACUC and IBC protocol management. PI group members have the permission to initiate a new protocol, amendment, or renewal draft in Animal Oversight and Hazard Safety. PI group members can edit all sections of the submissions. When the PI group member clicks the Submit button in an Animal Oversight or Hazard Safety document, the PI will be notified that the PI group member has created a draft that needs to be reviewed and submitted to the office by the PI. Only the PI has the permission to officially submit documents for review.
    • PI groups are managed by the administrative team. PI group members have permissions in other applications including submission of animal orders or import requests in Animal Procurement, submission of cage card or transfer requests in Animal Inventory, submission and review of health reports in Veterinary Care, and the review of  invoices and the management of account splits in Billing.

Please reach out if there is anything else I can do to support you!

    Best,

    Sarah

    Hi Sarah,

These files are great.  Do you happen to have an Admin one for Hazard Safety?

    Thanks,

    Mandy
