Big news!

This year has been challenging for all of us, from COVID-19 to the continuing fight for racial justice in the U.S. and beyond. This year hasn’t turned out like anybody expected, and there’s still a lot up in the air. Despite these challenges, I did want to share a bit of good growth news related to Cayuse: Primus Capital, a Cleveland-based private equity firm, has made a significant investment in our company that will help further accelerate our future growth plans! Alongside Primus, Quad Partners (which invested in us in 2017) and its affiliates reinvested in the company to support our next phase of growth.

This investment comes on the heels of rapid growth for Cayuse. We’ve been honored to serve a growing community of more than 350 customers. Our team has grown dramatically, and we’re proud that many come from research administration. We’ve also merged with four companies to extend our products and geographical reach. All this growth is to help our customers manage the entire research lifecycle via a connected cloud platform, coupled with the implementation and support resources to ensure your success.

Needless to say, we’ve been busy, and I’m so proud of our team for their continued dedication and hard work!

Cayuse has come a long way since researcher Chris Harker, Ph.D. founded us in 1994. Here’s a look at our trajectory and some key milestones of our journey over the past 26 years:

A busy 2020

The Primus investment is yet another validation this year of our momentum, innovation, leadership position, and long-term strategy that’s aligned with customer needs and key industry trends. Another example is our recent launch of our connected research cloud platform built to holistically address the challenges research administrators face across the entire research lifecycle. It provides a single user experience across all of our apps for everyone on your research team. The Cayuse research platform is built to empower connected research, so it supports not only workflows and connections across our suite of apps, but also third-party vendors and homegrown systems through pre-built connectors and APIs that support a variety of integrations.

Cayuse Platform and Apps

In addition, last month we also released the next generation of Cayuse SP, called Sponsored Projects, which is the central hub in our platform. This new app reimagines how the research portfolio can be managed. It’s designed to make it incredibly easy for research teams to manage awards, budgets, proposals, personnel, and much more. Key elements and capabilities like smart forms and intuitive routing will help make managing research even easier, especially now that teams are collaborating remotely. It’s helping our customers increase transparency, compliance, and ultimately peace of mind. You can learn more about Sponsored Projects here.

What’s next?

We already had ambitious plans for this year, and now with additional investment, we’ll be able to innovate even faster and bring these benefits to our customers even sooner. In the coming  years, we’ll help customers succeed by:

  • Using your feedback to drive our decisions and improvements
  • Continuing to build out our ecosystem of partners and connect research stakeholders
  • Innovating to reduce administrative burden even more to empower more science and less paperwork

We’ll also invest even more in R&D and continue making strategic acquisitions so Cayuse continues to be the market leader, with everything you need in one place. In the past few years, the market has shifted away from one-off and disconnected solutions toward the desire for an integrated platform like the one we’ve built, and we’re committed to providing the very best connected solution for research management.

Higher ed and healthcare researchers need support now more than ever, with the challenges of reopening labs and meeting sanitation guidelines. So I’m grateful for the role Cayuse can play in helping our customers stay compliant with the latest regulations and make it faster and easier to secure and manage funding.

A big thank you not only to Primus and Quad for investing in Cayuse, but also to all of our customers for choosing to partner with us and to everyone at Cayuse as we continue to adapt to working from home. This year has been a wild ride, and there’s still a lot more to come!
