    This is a full-time position with the LA CaTS Clinical Research Resources Core at Tulane University. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure sound financial management of clinical research within the university by providing financial and compliance support for clinical trials, as well as guidance on research finance for research staff and administrators. Responsibilities include: developing, negotiating, and executing budgets for clinical trials; performing Medicare coverage analyses for clinical trials to confirm billing compliance; providing management, training, and other support related to Tulane's clinical trial management system. This position also serves as a resource for guidance on issues related to research finance from departments within the School of Medicine in both pre- and post-award phases, and provides ongoing education to support research budgeting, labor distribution, financial management, invoicing, and other topics. Other duties include invoicing and collecting sponsor fees for work performed on clinical trials; monthly analysis and interpretation of clinical trial accounting data; providing administrative oversight for the SOM ClinCard program including financial reconciliation; and invoicing departments for research services conducted by the Tulane Clinical Translational Unit. The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and auditable financial and billing compliance records for all industry funded clinical trials. The Senior Accountant is also responsible for reviewing and processing financial documents for payment to internal and external entities, such as the Tulane Medical Center and Tulane Medical Group.

    Required knowledge and skills:

    • Ability to develop and negotiate budgets for clinical research in a comprehensive and timely manner

    • Knowledge of Medicare coverage analysis principles and ability to apply them to research protocols in a variety of clinical specialties

    • Experience and aptitude conducting and leading training sessions for research staff with varying areas and levels of prior exposure to subject matter.

    • Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles to the financial management of clinical trials

    • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines

    Required Education and/or Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree accounting, business, finance, or related field
    • 8 years of prior experience in sponsored research finance or accounting.
    • 1 year of experience performing Medicare coverage analyses
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Specific experience in clinical trial budgeting and management applications, i.e. clinical trial management systems
    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
    • Master's degree in accounting, public health, research administration, or other relevant field, and at least 4
    • years' experience in sponsored research finance or accounting.
    Compensation Information
    This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 27.
