We follow the same procedures as Whitney/Wright State University.
I would also add that we've requested (multiple times) that Cayuse change the system so that the IRB can change an expiration date (and admin check-in date) with
any submission type (modification, renewal, incident). We find it quite frustrating that we must ask PIs to submit a "dummy" renewal in order for the IRB to change an expiration date, especially if the change is related to an incident/modification (e.g., the IRB decides to change an approval period from one year to 6 months in response to a reportable event submitted via an incident).
I would encourage any others that would also like to see this change to the system to submit a request to Cayuse.

Hi Whitney,
Appreciate your response and explaining what your institution implemented. For visualization/clarification, you have the PIs "check in" annually to adjust for the expiration date.

The PI must file a new renewal. As part of the processing of the renewal submission, you can change from an expiration date to Check-In date. Its the only method of conversion that I have found to work so far.

For those using Human Ethics, how to work around studies that requested Central IRB or no longer need continual renewal but unable to change the expiration date?
