    JOB PURPOSE:   

    Reporting to the Director of Pre-Award, this position assists to enhance the University of Wyoming's research enterprise through ongoing assistance to faculty, staff, and graduate students through institutional oversight of pre-award and non-financial post-award activities. This position is responsible for the daily management and oversight of pre-award specialist staff. The Assistant Director provides day-to-day team supervision and will have accountability for the quality of unit work, development of standards, scheduling and prioritization of assignments, and the evaluation of staff and unit output. This position is responsible for onboarding and training new staff specialist, guiding their progression on the department's career path, and coordinating with the Director on performance evaluation and recommendations for promotion. Key components of the role are leadership and influencing the development of research administration processes and procedures. This position is integral to reaching the research goals for the University of Wyoming.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    The following duties are customary for this position but are not to be construed as all-inclusive.  Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.  

    • Serves as the primary point of contact for pre-award activities in the Office of Pre-Award Services
    • Supervises and trains Pre-Award Administrators in the development and/or review of grant/contract budgets prior to submission
    • Conducts performance evaluations of pre-award administrators to evaluate staff.  Develops performance improvement plans, when necessary, and manages other varied HR-related issues.
    • Facilitates the timely submission of externally sponsored project proposals to ensure compliance with university and sponsor policies, procedures, and guidelines
    • Communicates with partner institutions to compile and review subaward materials for collaborative proposals, particularly proposals with multiple stakeholders and funding partners
    • Liaises with the Office of Research Compliance and with Post-Award personnel to ensure efficient tracking of submitted proposals and incoming awards
    • Maintains working knowledge of Federal- and private-source electronic submission systems 
    • Remains current on, and proposes/suggests amendments to, research administration policies and procedures
    • Supervises the completion and/or compilation of Just-In-Time materials requested for proposals in review

    SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:  

    • Maintains an appropriate level of professional development activity.
    • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director.
    • May serve on University and/or external committees or task forces as necessary.

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

    This position requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus. 

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

    Education:  Bachelor's degree

    Experience: 4 years work-related experience in facilitating independent submission of federal, state, and private grants

    Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: None

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Ability to provide direction to Pre-Award Administrators (and, as appropriate, technical advice and information to faculty) involved in the preparation of external proposals
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • The ability to serve as a leader within an established team
    • Certified Research Administrator, CRA, CPRA or CFRA
