The Cayuse community is thrilled to shine its Champion Spotlight on @Dana Lawrence, Human Protections Administrator at Parker University. Keep reading below to get to know Dana!
How do you interact with Cayuse products on a daily basis?
I am the Human Protections Administrator for Parker University and have oversight of Cayuse. All proposals are initially routed through me, for decisions on whether a project is exempt, can be expedited, or will undergo full board review. I also attend all board meetings and am the person who uses Cayuse to send decisions to investigators.
What do you see as the hottest trends in research today?
I think the use of AI is going to have a huge impact on research moving forward though I cannot predict how this will play out. Certainly, it may help genetic research in novel ways.
What do you consider most promising in the era of big data?
In my profession (chiropractic), big data is allowing us to see trends in utilization data and to see how using conservative care such as chiropractic may decrease the use of opioids for conditions such as back pain.
How can an organization stay relevant five years from now?
Adapting to the rapid pace of technology is necessary while still maintaining a human touch in all we do.
What app would be hard for you to live without?
Since I am trying to wean myself off most social media, I would say I use the Google app most often.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I am an avid bicyclist, who at age 71 still rides around 4500 miles per year and takes 1-2 long trips each year (I've ridden 13 RAGBRAIs, for example). I am a collector of music as well, notably French progressive music and the legendary French band Magma.
If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
I think it is easy to pick an historical or religious figure, so I am going to not do that. Instead, I will stick to the personal and say that I would love to have met the jazz musician John Coltrane, whom I became aware of only after he had already died. I have been fortunate to meet many other jazz musicians: Chick Corea, Sonny Rollins, Sun Ra, Dizzy Gillespie, Gary Burton, Pat Metheny and more, but John Coltrane was important in my musical development.
Thank you, Dana, for being a Cayuse Champion and sharing your thoughts!
