About the conference

The conference is set to take place virtually May 5 -7, 2021.

This year our annual conference will be a little different in the following ways:

  1. It will be virtual;
  2. It will consist of three shorter days;
  3. It will aim to reach a wider audience including research ethics board members and administrators, researchers, and research participants.

In response to the current context this year’s conference theme is Shining a light on research ethics: How we have worked, overcome, and are moving forward. Conference attendees will acquire new skills through a combination of didactic, interactive and discussion-based learning to enhance their work performance and experiences, build capacity with the various research ethics frameworks (e.g. TCPS 2 2018, applicable policies and regulations); and most importantly, provide tools, examples and resources for the practical and ethical application of this knowledge.

We aim to reach a wider audience and highlight equity, diversity and inclusion considerations which align with and to the core principles of the TCPS 2, with the intent of showcasing and enabling advancements in research ethics practice, including providing opportunities for innovative approaches to research ethics review, conduct and practice, and promoting ethical research that is relevant with the times.

Our conference will be delivered through a variety of virtual session formats including webcast, webinar, video conference and pre-recorded video to facilitate optimal attendee engagement and content accessibility. We will keep the presentations short, and plan to include poster presentations, more extended breakout sessions, and a variety of hands-on workshop sessions.
