Thank you, Simon. This is helpful.

In my 10-year tenure working with Cayuse, it's more likely my team and me will have interactions with the "several new members to our support, product, and professional services teams" you mentioned.  Can you provide their names, roles, and their "roots in the research industry" ?

All too often we'll get an email from someone new at Cayuse and it'll be so helpful if we have a bit of background on them to start developing the relationship, and to add credibility.  Similarly, if we hear from someone without research admin experience, we'll know we need to add more context or explanation to reach a resolution quicker as they get acquainted with the industry.
    All the best,
    Terri

    Hi @Terri Hall,

Please allow me to join the conversation. I am Jo Salazar, new PSC-Inventions, located in Bloomington, Indiana near the Indiana University Campus. I have worked at IU in both Bloomington and Indianapolis for 36 years. I'll provide you some detail and some raw numbers that may be helpful.

Depending on how you choose to slice and dice it, since I have never had just one role as a university employee, here are all my numbers: 36 years at IU. 8 in the TT/innovation arena, 18 in research administration, 18 in education, 18 in clinical care/operations, 10 in risk management, 1 in direct patient care, 35 in finance/operations/administration.

I've worked in the IU School of Medicine in GI, the Chief Resident's Office and Psychiatry Departments; in external agencies including IUPA, the psychiatry practice plan, that also happened to own the managed mental health care organization, and The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction. I've also enjoyed the opportunity to start a new research center that was focused on changing the entrepreneurial culture of the Bloomington campus and drive the increase of invention disclosures and participation in translational research.

I'm pleased to parlay my experience to the consultant role at Cayuse and help our partners achieve their research missions with greater ease and connectivity. Please feel free to email or call me.

    Best, Jo

Thanks to Simon and all of the "new faces at Cayuse" who responded.
It's great to meet all of you, even if it is only virtually.

I welcome this type of introduction for all new Cayuse staff that interact with customers.
I found the backgrounds extremely helpful and reassuring.

    Hi Terri,

It is nice to meet you! I joined Cayuse earlier this month as a new Professional Services Consultant for Graduate Education Manager and wanted to introduce myself. I do not have a research administration background, however, am very involved with graduate education and graduate studies. My areas of expertise are in student access and retention at both the undergraduate and graduate level. I have 15 years of experience in various student services functional areas such as enrollment management services and student life and engagement. I am also a current doctoral student in an Ed Leadership program with a research focus on student success and higher education organizational effectiveness. Please feel free to send me a message or browse my LinkedIn profile.

    Looking forward to our interactions!

Hello, Terri! Simon asked me to introduce myself as a "representative sample" of the PSC (Professional Service Consultants) who are new to Cayuse. I can tell you that every PSC at Cayuse, whether new or an "old hand" has strong, direct experience in research administration at institutions of higher ed and other organizations who do what you do. Cayuse does not hire anyone in the PSC role who hasn't worked in the field. For my part, I have ~18 years of experience in primarily pre-award administration, including 5 years as the executive director of an international literary association with NEH funding hosted by Boston University; 7 years as a grant-developer and research administrator at the largest healthcare system in the state of Michigan; and most recently, 6 years as director of the central sponsored-programs office at Grand Valley State University. I have the CRA certification as well. I hope this is helpful. I'm sure other colleagues would be happy to introduce themselves as well. Very best wishes to you and thank you so much for your support of the Cayuse Community and your long-standing patronage of our SaaS solutions!
    Warm regards,

    Hi Terri!

I am also one of the new Professional Service Consultants here at Cayuse. While I may be new to the company, I'm not new to the research administration field. I am a Certified Research Administrator, with over 7 years of pre and post award experience. During my time working in academia I've worked with tiny foundational grants all the way to large multi core cooperative NIH grants. I currently work with our Post-Award Products (Fund Manager and Effort) as those are my greatest areas of expertise, as I served as a Departmental Post Award Manager for both UNT Health Science Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center.

As Michael mentioned Cayuse only hires those who have worked in the industry and are familiar with the daily activities that a research administrator does. As we continue to grow I'm sure more of my colleagues will continue to introduce themselves so you can see where we're all located and what products we'll be working on with you.

    Kind Regards,
    Kathryn Simpson, MPH, CRA

    Hi Terri,

Great to meet you! I've been at Cayuse for almost 2 years as a Professional Services Consultant helping customers launch the Animal Oversight, Hazard Safety, and Vivarium Operations applications. I worked in research labs for 8 years at various institutions including Indiana University, the USDA, and the University of Maryland. My research primarily focused on questions in evolutionary biology working with model organisms from tomatoes to fruit flies. I transitioned to research administration here in Portland at OHSU, where I supported the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) for five years.

It has been really exciting and rewarding for me to be able to apply my background in research and research administration to helping our customers at Cayuse. I love learning about other research programs and collaborating with my customers on their new applications.

Please reach out with any questions.

    All the best,
    Sarah
