    Good morning,

We have a PI who has left the institution and the research institute where she worked wants to assign the studies (and IRB protocols) to different PIs.  The trouble is, the PI was the only person named on the protocol in Human Ethics so I am unclear if or how they can assign the protocol to a new PI.  Can anyone help me?  Thank you!

    Hi Julie,

In the past the only way to make changes in IRB is to submit a modification. In our instance there were Co-PI's who could submit to make changes but in your case it sounds like the PI is the only person on the protocol. I hope this helps but maybe Cayuse can provide more insight.

    Good luck!

    Hi Julie,
It's really difficult to navigate this step if there was only one person listed on the submission. If this person is no longer affiliated with your institution and no longer has access to your Human Ethics system, any new personnel wanting to pick up this research and move forward with it may need to submit new applications under their name. The only solution I can think of that may help is submitting these studies to Cayuse as "Legacy studies" and assigning the new PI to those studies (of course, with this step, you may need to have the new PI's submit amendments outside of the system to request to be added to these studies). Maybe Cayuse support would have another solution to offer. I would be interested to see how you resolve this matter. Thank you.

    Best,
    Sharla
