I had a protocol come in recently under exempt category 6 and was wondering how others determine what does and does not meet the criteria for that category. How do you make your determination and do you have your own specific criteria?

I am admittedly not an expert on nutrition and we do not get many protocols that may qualify for this study so any guidance would be appreciated. I am considering seeking out a Dietitian I know to get their opinion.

    Regards,

    Hi Tim,

I'm wondering if @Matt Zembrzuski might have some insight on this question?

Matt, how might you handle this?

    Thanks,

    Matty

Thanks Matty. I like that there is an "@" function as well.

I can't recall ever getting an exempt 6 study, but I think @Tim Deering's idea of reaching out to a dietitian or nutritionist would help.  Have you tried the PRIM&R SBER group for advice?

    Hi Tim,
Please excuse my delay in replying here!! So, Exempt Cat 6 is rarely seen in higher ed research, we never saw this at UC Irvine so I would be curious if this is truly Category 6. If it is, I think your idea of looping in a dietician to assess risk is a good idea! -Alicia
