    Overview: The Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC) is the largest interdisciplinary research center on NYU's Washington Square Campus with a portfolio of over $50 million in active research grants. We support a diverse portfolio of research grants in the United States and internationally, funded by federal funding agencies,  foundations, and international agencies. Through collaborative and interdisciplinary research, IHDSC works to bridge the disconnect between the science of human development and policies and practices that affect children, youth, and families in diverse contexts. We support rigorous research and training across social, behavioral, educational, policy, communication, and health sciences.   Our research teams work with communities, policymakers, and practitioners to answer key questions about health and wellbeing, education and child development, justice and child welfare, and race, poverty, and inequality.

    Position Summary: IHDSC seeks a senior staff member to oversee post-award grants management and operations support for the Institute's $50M federally- and privately-sponsored research portfolio.  This position provides critical support for faculty conducting groundbreaking interdisciplinary research locally, nationally, and internationally  and serves as the department's post-award liaison to several key operational units across the University (e.g., Sponsored Programs Administration, Office of Sponsored Programs, etc.).  This position also  collaborates with Steinhardt offices to ensure the consistent application of school policies. The incumbent directs the work of IHDSC's post-award team and ensures that all sponsored research activity within the Institute complies with University policies/procedures and applicable federal/private foundation guidelines. This position reports to IHDSC's Director and has oversight for developing and managing the Institute's budget.

    Essential Functions:

    Post-Award Grants Management (60%)

    Provide post-award support and services for all Principal Investigator (PI) led grants administered through the Institute. Maintain strong working knowledge of University policies/procedures and applicable federal/private foundation guidelines nationally and internationally and advise PIs on their interpretation and application. Work with PIs to prepare/submit correspondence with sponsors, including narrative reports and prior approval requests. Collaborate with NYU's central Sponsored Programs Administration office to submit financial reports for all IHDSC-managed grants. Monitor spending on IHDSC projects, track expenses against approved budgets, recover payments, and perform timely closeout of sponsored accounts. Ensure IHDSC complies with federal effort reporting requirements for personnel costs charged to sponsored programs.

    Research Operations (30%)

    Provide operational support for sponsored projects administered through IHDSC, including coordinating University services and assigning material resources, such as research facilities/workspace. Oversee personnel management for all student and Professional Research Staff appointments, including onboarding/offboarding, costing changes, and reappointments. Work with the Office of Global Services to secure work authorization for foreign nationals. Collaborate with central University offices to facilitate the review/approval of subcontracts and consulting agreements. Collaborate with IHDSC's post-award team  to review/approve grant expenditures and cost transfers.

    Institute Operations and Financial Management (10%)

    Oversee IHDSC's core post-award personnel, including performance management, training/ professional development, and setting priorities for the team. Set work assignments to ensure the daily operations of the Institute run smoothly, especially during periods of peak activity. Forecast indirect cost recovery and work closely with the Director to develop and manage IHDSC's budget, ensuring that spending priorities align with the Institute's strategic goals. Assist the Director in preparing special reports that require financial or grant-related information.

    Qualifications

    B.A. required; M.A. preferred with five years of progressively responsible experience in federal, foundation, and/or international grants management within a University or non-profit setting. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel with prior experience managing large, complex budgets and supervising teams. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation and experience managing communications with diverse stakeholders. Highly responsive. Flexible and able to routinely juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders including faculty, students, and department, school and university administrators. NYU experience strongly preferred.
