    Description –

The University of Pittsburgh's Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition is one of the leading gastrointestinal centers in the country. The Division is committed to providing the best of tomorrow's medicine today. We are seeking a qualified Senior Laboratory Specialist to work at the interface of cellular immunology and genomics research in a laboratory that aims to bridge the knowledge gap separating the incomplete understanding of inflammatory bowel disease pathogenesis and the development of therapies directed precisely at specific pathogenic cellular and molecular targets. Work hours will be full-time, Monday-Friday with a requirement for occasional evening hours on the longer first day of some multi-day experiments. Subsequent days of multi-day experiments have predictable, alternative stopping points so that those days can be shorter.

    Laboratory activities include:

-Intake and processing of study subject biosamples

-Entry of biosample data, biosample meta-data, and data derived from biosamples in computer databases

-Isolation of cells from peripheral blood and colonoscopic mucosal biopsy samples and cell subpopulation separations using magnetic bead-based and/or flow cytometry techniques

    -Cell culture

    -Single cell multimodal omics analyses

-Preparation of samples for analysis of DNA sequence variants using genotyping and DNA sequencing

-Coordination of laboratory projects with clinical research coordinators who recruit and obtain biosamples from study subjects

-Coordination with other laboratory personnel and the PI to order and inventory laboratory supplies, and to prepare laboratory supply cost estimates for budgets

-Participation in the interviewing, orientation, training and performance review of more junior laboratory personnel who may join the laboratory.

    Qualifications –

Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
