It is the "pre‐award" unit of the research foundation and the office faculty should contact once a sponsor has been identified and a proposal is being developed. Sponsored research development staff can assist faculty with interpreting guidelines and sponsor submission requirements, contacting potential sponsors, preparing budgets, completing application forms, obtaining university approvals, electronic submission of proposals, facilitating compliance items, duplicating and mailing of proposals, and assisting with follow‐up and other pre‐award needs. In fiscal year 2020, the office helped faculty submit over 1,200 proposals to federal, state, local, corporate, and foundation sponsors. Almost 800 awards were received amounting to over $144 million.  There are twelve employees in SRD: seven development specialists, two sponsored programs coordinator, one analyst, one technician, and the director of the department.
