Reporting to the Southern Oregon University Vice President of University Advancement, the Director of Grants, Sponsored Contracts and Strategic Initiatives oversees all aspects of the proposal and award lifecycle that support SOU faculty research. The Director initiates and coordinates submission of large institution-wide or collaborative grant proposals to federal, state, and local granting agencies (e.g. NSF, Oregon Cultural Trust, City of Ashland). The Director collaborates with the Office of Academic Affairs to assist faculty and staff with the development of proposals to external agencies; conduct ongoing and targeted research to generate grant opportunities for the university and its faculty members; guide faculty colleagues in preparing grant applications, including review of sponsor requirements to ensure compliance with agency/sponsor requirements as well as SOU policies; provide expertise/training to university administrators, faculty and staff members to support their grant writing work; provide leadership in the grant lifecycle and serve as a university signatory for proposal submissions on behalf of SOU; ensure a smooth transition from pre-award to post-award; and oversee management of submissions, documentation, and analytics of grant success at SOU.
