    Providence is calling a Grants and Finance Specialist (1.0 FTE, 100% remote) to Providence Cancer Institute in Portland, OR or any states within the Providence footprint (WA, CA, MT, AK, TX, NM).

    Providence Cancer Institute is seeking a Grants and Finance Specialist that will serve as the primary day-to-day liaison with research departments in integrating and coordinating all grant submittals and research contract finance. Providence Cancer Institute is home to the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute, a world-class research facility and a recognized leader in the field of cancer immunotherapy and genomic medicine. We offer the latest in cancer services, including diagnostics, treatment, prevention, education, support and internationally-renowned research.

    The Specialist-Grants and Finance is responsible for performing pre- and post-award duties for grants and contracts. The position is also responsible for monitoring industry-sponsored clinical trial budgets and contracts to ensure prompt reconciliation of deficits.

    In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

    • Work with Principal Investigators (PIs) to prepare grant proposals for submission to funding agencies. Interprets sponsor guidelines and requirements

    • Prepare initial budgets based on information from multiple sources

    • Prepare and review other application materials and documents (face page, bio-sketches, resources, checklist, other support, et al.) required by funding agency to ensure appropriate content and format

    • Prepare both paper and electronic grant applications with utmost accuracy

    • Work with PIs to ensure annual reports and other non-financial related reports are completed as required by funding agencies

    • Monitor monthly expenditures for grant and contract accounts and ensures compliance with approved budget and sponsor guidelines

    • Submit invoices as outlined by the sponsor and tracks receipt of funds.

    • Monitor monthly departmental expenditures by account, verifies figures, tabulates budgetary data and checks for accuracy

    • Communicate to individual PI's their monthly account expenses versus budget.

    • Review negotiated clinical trial budgets/contracts to establish financial monitoring plan for the duration of each industry-sponsored study

    • Perform monthly review of industry-sponsored clinical trials following established monitoring plans and works with Regional Research staff and the Administrative Director of Clinical Research to resolve any discrepancies/deficits

    Qualifications:

    Required qualifications for this position includes:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with major courses in Accounting, Finance, or a related field -OR- equivalent education/experience

    • Three (3) years of Grant/contract coordination experience with responsibility for monitoring the use of grant funds

    • Experience in a research institution in the areas of both clinical and basic science.

    • Knowledge and demonstrated success of grant application and project management

    • Organizational skills to manage information collection across multiple faculty members from different laboratories

    • Excellent, professional writing and communications skills

    • Business-like, excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with personnel at all levels

    • Excellent customer service skills

    • Computer Skills in word processing, graphics, and database including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat

    Preferred qualifications for this position include:

    • Experience with clinical trial accounting and/or working in a research setting

    • Experience working with Cayuse
