    Happy Friday!

With all of the changes in regulations related to reporting conflicts of interest and commitment introduced over the past year, how has your school adapted to the changes?  Have you developed any new processes to capture this data and maintain it?  I would love to hear what other institutions are doing to stay on top of these changes and who is mainly in charge of that information and maintaining it.

    Thanks,
    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

We are seeing a big shift in utilizing Annual Disclosures to be the main mechanism for reporting this information under the umbrella of "Outside Activities" which could be defined as "endeavors you undertake with an external entity/organization which rely upon, or utilize, the professional expertise that you provide to The University"

You can the utilize the smart form and separate these activities into categories such as: International Engagements, Creation or Collaboration of Intellectual Property, Gifts/In Kind Support, Paid/Unpaid Services.

As information is entered, you can embed some branching logic to remind the reporter of what NOT to disclose to avoid maintaining data that is outside of institutional policies.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Jennifer,

To be honest, we haven't changed a great deal except to maintain a signed PI assurance that any information we send out regarding their Other Support is true and complete.  We currently have no way of tracking any non-funded and non-effort-requiring commitments, so we're really looking forward to leveraging the Cayuse Platform for this when we upgrade from SP classic and potentially add the COI module.

    cheers,

Yes, we are in the same boat!  We are in the process of adding the COI module so I look forward to that as well for so many reasons!
