    Good day, everyone!

Does anyone have any recommendations for training for a PI on how to write proposals for funding in the sciences?  Online would be great, of course!

Thanks, and take care and stay safe, all!

    Pam

As someone new to the research world, I love this question! I'll be curious to see what suggestions people have.

    Hi there, Pam!

One suggestion I have is to take a look at the NORDP website. I found this page with some online resources, but they also do online events such as mentoring and workshops.

Another resource that we used when I was in research administration is the Grant Professionals Association. They have some amazing on demand webinars that span topics from evaluation best practices through to proposal development/grant writing.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Pam,

In collaboration with our institutional Postdoctoral Office, our Grants Development team offers a proposal development workshop twice per year, and they offer a Grant Writing Guide .  Unfortunately, it's all behind our fire wall, so I can't share that.  They do have some links to resources, though:

    Sample successful applications:
    https://cancercontrol.cancer.gov/is/funding/sample-grant-applications
    https://www.niaid.nih.gov/grants-contracts/sample-applications
    https://www.nccih.nih.gov/grants/grant-writing-advice-and-sample-applications

Across the street from us, UCSD often offers extension courses in grant writing.  Here's one:  https://extension.ucsd.edu/courses-and-programs/grant-writing-for-nonprofits   While it's not geared specifically toward a science PI per se, the concepts are universal with respect to getting your ideas across to a funding agency and learning the ins-and-outs of grantsmanship.

I'd be surprised if more of our colleagues didn't have some awesome suggestions!

    Happy weekend, everyone.

    cheers,
    -Lisa
