    Hello Cayuse Community!

Seeing that NSF has been steadily encouraging the use of Research.gov for their grant submissions, how many campuses out there still utilize Cayuse Proposal for their NSF submissions? Is it an option left up to the PI as to which platform to use? Or does your Sponsored Projects office recommend or require one over the other?

    Thanks!

    Jonathan

    Hi Jon,

We have a couple of considerations when deciding on platform for NSF.  First and foremost, if it's a Collaborative Proposal and the FOA allows it, we require (if we're the "prime") or strongly encourage (if we are not) the method of "collaborative proposals from separate organizations" (which is often via FastLane, though Research.gov is becoming more common).  Thus far, if it is not collaborative, we allow the PI to choose FastLane or Research.gov because NSF hasn't fully integrated some functionality with grants.gov (and by extension, Cayuse).  In the interest of full disclosure, nearly all our submissions are to the BIO directorate that requires a form that is still not available on grants.gov (or at least it wasn't the last time I checked).

While we could allow the PI to use WHATever platform they like, we've found it makes our job easier if we use a the same platform for all NSF submissions.

    Cheers,
    -Lisa

We encourage investigators to use the Cayuse S2S portal if there's a package available, just because it's usually simpler and easier. However, if there are senior personnel who aren't on the budget, then we'd default to using research.gov - I don't see the point of submitting the proposal in Cayuse and then having to go to r.gov to do a file update to take them off the budget. If Cayuse could figure out a way to do that in the S2S portal, that would be awesome!

    Hi Jonathan!
We've never used Cayuse424 for NSF submissions and hadn't used Grants.gov for NSF before that. We found NSF's systems to be very intuitive. I will also add that our faculty aren't doing the submitting, the central SPA team requests access to edit the proposal and loads everything in on their behalf. Research.gov was a pretty easy transition for us and I actually REALLY like the strict validations.
