I wanted to run an idea by you all to get your input. You can respond here or email me directly (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you prefer to give feedback privately.
Something I've noticed recently is a handful of folks asking me to post questions in the Connect Community on their behalf because they don't want their name or institution attached to the question. Sometimes this can just be people who want to keep a low profile, other times because they're embarrassed about a question that they feel like they "should" know.
Our community software gives us the option to allow people to post anonymously. What would you think about trying out allowing anonymous posting?
A few things to mention:
So what do you all think? Should we do a trial run of allowing anonymous posting and see if it's helpful or is it more important to always know who you're talking to?
Thanks everyone for the input! Based on the responses here and several private messages in support of the idea, we're going to give this a trial run and see if it's useful to folks.
To start a new discussion thread anonymously, just start a discussion as usual and you'll see a check box to make it anonymous:You can also reply to discussions anonymously:I'll also reply to this anonymously so you can see what it looks like.
Thanks again, everyone, and I hope you all try this out!
