Cayuse Champion Spotlight: Jeri-Anne Lyons, PhD

The Cayuse community is thrilled to shine its Champion Spotlight on @Jeri-Anne Lyons, Associate Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Northern Colorado. Keep reading below to get to know Jeri better.

How do you interact with Cayuse products on a daily basis?
We are in the process of implementing the Cayuse Graduation Education Manager. We are working closely with our Cayuse team to tailor the system to our needs and implement a platform that will support graduate student success.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to make jewelry and practice yoga. I like to run, walk, hike, bike, and SUP. I enjoy spending time with my husband and three cats just relaxing.

What do you see as the hottest trends in research today?
Funding large, cross-sector, multi-institutional collaborations/Hubs to bring together the diversity of expertise available to move basic research to societal impact.

What do you consider most promising in the era of big data?
My background is in health sciences. The promise of big data to develop precision medicine to improve clinical outcomes for patients is exciting. Precision medicine has been discussed for years. Big data provides the means to move forward.

How can an organization stay relevant five years from now?
Being agile and rapidly developing to change trends. Being agile is difficult when budgets are tight, but it is absolutely necessary to for IHE to survive and thrive.

What app would be hard for you to live without?
Find Me Gluten Free, a community-based app that shares and reviews restaurants, grocery stores, and other social venues that offer gluten-free or gluten-friendly options. It’s invaluable when I’m traveling and need to find places to eat.

If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
Rosalind Franklin; to understand the challenges she faced as a woman in sciences would provide context to how far we’ve come and help understand the challenges that remain.
