Kris Monahan

How do you interact with Cayuse products on a daily basis?

Providence College has the Grants module. The Cayuse Grants module is the center of all of our information. The team at PC has the system open throughout the day updating proposal records as activity occurs so each member of the team has shared, up-to-date to proposal information at any time and any place. As a manager, I can query information, look for trends, and quickly and easily have the most up to date information when communicating with investigators. The Cayuse systems helps us interact with faculty quickly with full information.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to spend time with my family and friends whenever I can. I love early morning walks on the beach with my three exuberant Boston Terriers (Finnegan, Delilah, and Marlee). In the summer, I plant a huge garden with 13 vegetable beds and love cooking up the fruits of my labor. When I’m not traveling, gardening, cooking or with my dogs, I can usually be found on a basketball court or football field all over the state of Rhode Island on weekends with my 13 year old son.

What do you see as the hottest trends in research today?
Research continues to be more interdisciplinary and collaborative. Complex issues, problems, and questions require multiple perspectives from diverse perspectives. While research is still incremental, we continue to make bigger strides forward more quickly by working in diverse interdisciplinary teams.

What do you consider most promising in the era of big data?
Discoveries, therapies, and translation research can be accelerated as we increase capacity to analyze larger, more complex data sets, especially from new data sources. Technology should allow more data sharing and collaboration to solve more complex problems in society more quickly.

How can an organization stay relevant five years from now?
An organization can always stay relevant if it invests in technology while simultaneously focusing on the human resources, talent and skills to keep an engaged and thriving workforce.

What app would be hard for you to live without?
I’m constantly on Amazon Music, finding calm music during difficult days, motivational music for my work out play list, and just good old classic 80s rock to soothe my teenage me.

If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
I would love to meet Maya Angelou. I have enjoyed her poetry and was moved by her book I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, her autobiography of her childhood. So many of her quotes stick with me. “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” The positivity and grace exuded during her lifetime is inspiring despite the obstacles and challenges she faced. Her writing and poetry touched a generation.

Thank you, Kris, for being a Cayuse Champion and sharing your thoughts!
