How do you interact with Cayuse products on a daily basis?
I am the eRA for the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at Lamar University. I use the Cayuse software everyday by assisting PI's with IRB, Proposals, and Sponsored Projects matters. Every day is a new adventure with new opportunities.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Watch baseball; I'm a huge Astros fan. I also enjoy spending time with my family and relaxing on my back porch.
What do you see as the hottest trends in research today?
Electronic software programs, like Cayuse. Because of Covid-19, the Lamar University community was sent home early in 2020. Because of Cayuse's cloud-based software we were able to still move forward with IRB submissions and approvals, grants proposals were still being submitted and approved not only internally but externally as well.
How can an organization stay relevant five years from now?
As cloud-based systems keep developing, Lamar University is investing in forward thinking technology. We hope to bring the availability of real time data to our PI's.
What app would be hard for you to live without?
Microsoft Teams, hands down. Teams has been a huge asset to Lamar during the pandemic. When we were away from campus, we were able to continue to assist our PI's with any questions/concerns/issues they might have been experiencing and we were able to work through them.
If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
Well, as I mentioned, I love baseball, especially Houston Astros baseball. There are multiple phenomenal baseball players who have played for the Astros organization. But the top stand out for me is Nolan Ryan. The Ryan Express as he became known, in his nine seasons as a pitcher with the Astros, compiled a 106-94 record in 282 starts. He also had a 3.13ERA and 1866 strikeouts in 1, 854 innings. He currently holds 51 MLB records. Ryan has a 27-year career in baseball and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999.
