How do you interact with Cayuse products on a daily basis?
As the former IRB Coordinator for KRMC, I have more of a consultative role now. However, during my time in that position, we acquired Cayuse Human Ethics and depend on it daily to take in various submissions, assign them for review, and render decisions based on their type.

What do you like to do outside of work?
In Montana we are very seasons based and what I do outside of work is driven by the seasons. In summer, we raise a huge garden, maintain an orchard, and raise poultry. In fall, we store and preserve our harvest for winter. In winter, we focus on indoor activities, winter related pastimes, and remove snow. In spring, we relish in the longer days and the preparing for summer. All the seasons are incredibly beautiful.

What do you see as the hottest trends in research today?
Trends in research, at least in my experience, is a world of extremes. On one hand, certain needs are being pursued at breakneck speed to achieve solutions. On the other hand, many types of research are being stymied by the lack of access to subjects and the normal research environment.

What do you consider most promising in the era of big data?
The era of big data means more trained minds can access data and thereby run models and tests on their specific slice of interest or expertise. It increases competition and the speed at which hypotheses can be tested and results furthered.

How can an organization stay relevant five years from now?
All institutions will be increasingly challenged to maintain their relevance in research as technology moves towards artificial intelligence. There will need to be the inclusion of technically trained specialists as new specialties emerge and find a presence in research communities- whether in the university or hospital setting.

What app would be hard for you to live without?
Zoom is still the app of choice for me. Communicating this year has seen the garden of new applications and their uses bursting into view. For both business and pleasure, Zoom has been the mainstay for local and international communication.

If you could meet any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
Being trained in history, which historical figure I would like to meet is a difficult question to answer. One of my favorites would be George Washington, pre-presidency. As a man of training both in farming and military defense, he had a patient perspective on what America was becoming. Harnessing resources, trade, and self-sufficiency, Washington lived during a pivotal point in our country’s formative stages toward independence and realized communities need to be strong and inter-dependent to succeed. Valley Forge epitomizes that statement. We certainly benefit from those who have gone before.

Thank you Deanna for being a Cayuse Champion and sharing your thoughts!

Love that you picked George Washington pre-presidency, Deanna! That is a good choice and one I don't think people usually consider. Very cool! Thank you for being a champion and for sharing your thoughts, Deanna.
